Tactile Positive Reinforcement – Free E-book DownloadPosted in: Announcements, Clicker Training, Equine Training, Positive Reinforcement Training, The Academy of Positive Horsemanship
Positive reinforcement training (aka clicker training) is most often associated with the use of food reinforcers following the marker/clicker signal.
Actually though, there is another incredibly powerful but much less discussed reinforcer available to us as equine positive reinforcement trainers – tactile positive reinforcement.
The problem is, the majority of tactile reinforcement used on horses is, at best perceived as neutral by the horse in terms of any motivational effect on their behaviour and at worst, outright punitive. The use of tactile touch used to motivate discretionary effort is quite misunderstood in this context within the horse world.
